The Library is seeking proposals for contractors for demolition and construction tied to the new Woodridge library.
The contractors will be part of our mentor-protégé program, an effort launched with the Department of Small and Local Business Development to help small, certified local businesses develop into prime contractors. The protégé firms will learn how mentor firms manage and staff projects, and mentors will offer protégés insight into their budget and financial controls.
We are aiming to work with local D.C. builders on the construction project, which is estimated to be $12-$13 million. The mentor-protégé program requires a three-year partnership between companies. During the partnership, the companies agree to bid on construction jobs together and provide monthly status reports to the Library as a measure their progress.
